National Scholarships and Fellowships

On-Campus Advising for Nationally Competitive Scholarships and Fellowships:

As a student at the U, you can get advising right here on campus for a wide range of nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships that will provide you with an extraordinary academic and life experience in locations around the world and in the US. Applying for one of these opportunities will help you improve your writing skills, reflect on how your interests and goals have been shaped by your life and academic experiences, and effectively and succinctly articulate your professional and academic goals. Receiving one of these awards will stay with you your entire life and give you a competitive advantage for future professional and academic opportunities. There are scholarships and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students. If you are a motivated student, interested in expanding your academic experience, and ready for a new challenge, this is for you!

  • Focus:
    Study abroad for a minimum of 6 months (8 weeks for students in STEM fields) in a location critical to U.S. security
    Demonstrate an interest in working for the federal government after graduation

    Eligibility:
    Matriculated undergraduate student in an accredited U.S. institution
    Ability to complete Boren-funded programs before graduation
    Plan to study in an eligible world region
    U.S. citizen

    Award:
    $10,000 for a semester
    $20,000 for a full academic year
    $8,000 for a summer program (for STEM students only; 8 weeks minimum)

  • Focus:
    Demonstrate outstanding Intellectual ability in the areas of math, science and engineering. Also, have significant research experience in his/her area of interest, preferably at multiple institutions and have presented/published work.
    Good fit between applicant’s qualification and program of study at Cambridge, which, they are applying.
    Previous international experience highly recommended.
    Scholarship will fund a 1-year masters degree (Msc).
    Students must complete their bachelors’ degree prior to starting a graduate program at Cambridge.

    Eligibility:
    University of Utah Endorsement required.
    U.S. Citizen
    Apply to the University of Cambridge to a graduate program by mid-October.
    Must be in final year of undergraduate study or be with in 12 months of graduating.

    Award:
    Full tuition at University of Cambridge, Housing and Stipend to complete a 1 year Masters Degree (Msc), total funding $60,000 for the year.

    Application Timeline:
    Begin endorsement process early January.

  • Focus:
    Assist with teaching English and U.S. culture in schools around the world
    Cultural immersion
    8-12 months

    Eligibility:
    U.S. citizen
    Undergraduates in final year (must have earned bachelor’s degree by beginning of grant period) and Graduate Students (cannot have earned PhD yet when applying)
    Depending on location, proficient in local language

    Award:
    Roundtrip airfare
    Monthly living stipend (may extend to dependents in specific locations)
    Health insurance coverage
    Other benefits dependent on location

  • Focus:
    Undergraduate and graduate academic experience in countries around the world
    Complete an academic project abroad which can be research as part of a graduate degree in the U.S. or a project of personal interest to a recent graduate that might be preparatory work to apply to a graduate program
    Collaborate with peers and a faculty advisor at a university abroad

    Eligibility:
    US. citizen
    Undergraduates in final year (must have earned bachelor’s degree by beginning of grant period) and Graduate Students (cannot have earned PhD yet when applying)
    Depending on location, proficient in local language

    Award:

    For graduate study at the University of Cambridge
    Demonstrate outstanding Intellectual ability, leadership potential, clear reason for studying at the University of Cambridge for graduate school and a commitment to improving the lives of others.
    Good fit between applicant’s qualification and program of study at Cambridge, which, they are applying.
    Scholarship will fund either a 1 year masters degree (Msc) or 3 year doctorate degree (PhD).
    Students must complete their bachelors’ degree prior to starting a graduate program at Cambridge.

    Award:
    Full tuition at University of Cambridge, Housing + $22,000/year stipend to complete either 1 year Masters Degree (Msc) or 3 year doctorate degree (PhD).

  • Focus:
    Participation in learning abroad, including credit-bearing internships
    Students from diverse ethnic backgrounds
    First-generation students
    Students with disabilities
    Students planning to study in locations that are less common destinations for US students
    Students in fields of study underrepresented in learning abroad (including but not limited to STEM fields)

    Eligibility:
    U.S. citizen
    Undergraduate student
    Must be receiving a full Federal Pell Grant at time of application or during term abroad
    Must be applying to a study abroad program or internship eligible for credit at the student’s U.S. higher education institution
    Studying or interning for a minimum of 4 weeks in one country

    Award:
    Up to $5,000

    Application Timeline:
    Jan. - March for Summer, Fall, and Academic Year programs, Aug. - Oct. for Spring programs

  • Focus:
    Undergraduates in the area of Science, Math and Engineering who intend on pursing research careers in these areas.
    Currently involved in research.
    Preference to students who have presented/published their research results.

    Award:
    $7,500 merit based scholarship

  • Focus:
    For graduate study at any university in the UK.
    Strong Academics, extensive leadership in field of study, ability to problem solve and translate field of study to the UK.
    Student must present a strong case for why studying a particular graduate program in the UK is important to their long-term goals and how the experience will improve upon the US-UK relationship in their chosen field of study.
    Open to all majors.

  • Focus:
    Open to all majors
    For graduate study in Ireland or Northern Ireland
    Focused on merit (GPA > 3.7), leadership and public service

    Eligibility:
    University of Utah Endorsement required
    S. Citizen
    GPA 3.7
    Demonstrated leadership and public service experience
    Age 30 or younger

    Award:
    $40,000 (1 year of graduate study in Ireland and Northern Ireland)

  • Focus:

    Eligibility:
    Must be pursuing a research-based master or doctoral degree from an accredited US institution

    Award:
    3 year annual stipend of $32,000 and $12,000 cost of education allowance

  • Focus:
    For graduate study at the University of Oxford
    For students with high scholarly achievement, passion for sport, clear evidence of the ability to lead, and can demonstrate how they plan to make an impact in this world.
    Students must complete their bachelors’ degree prior to starting a graduate program at Oxford.

    The Truman has a strong focus on public service, and seeks to award students who want to be “change agents” in their careers
    For which all majors, graduate students, US and abroad

    Eligibility:
    3.7 GPA

    Junior in college at the time of application

    Award:
    $30,000 one-time award to be used toward graduate school
